ADVENTURE RIDES

Those that come to ride with us quickly get an appreciation of how the West was during that unbelievably short period of time from the end of the Civil War to the turn of the century. What we aim to show you, and really let you experience for yourself, is this country we call "cowboy country." We want you to experience the history of the people that were here before history even began, and to see how the early settlers homesteaded this country trying to eke out a living from the hard and unforgiving land.

We try to do this from a number of adventures we offer you. None of these adventures is cut from a mold just as each horse is different, and you have to ride a spell before you get to know each other. We offer you the outline. You customize it to fit your interests, riding ability and sense of adventure!

On the following pages we will offer you five different adventures. You choose which you want to start with. Possibly you will keep coming back to join us for some of the others, and make up some of your own as you get to know more about the "cowboy way of life."

  • Adventure 1: Just plain moving cattle from one pasture to another, finding strays, and every once in a while rounding up a bull that has gone off on his own. You will learn about the land, and why cowboy ponies are different from those city horses you are probably familiar with.
  • Adventure 2: Now this is not as easy as it sounds. How about riding cross-country, rolling out your blanket (or sleeping bag) at the end of the day, and starting over the next day? You will explore country that goes on forever – and then some. And you soon will see how people moved across the land just 150 years ago.
  • Adventure 3: For those that want to learn the history of the place, and experience how ancient our land really is, we will explore many sites covering the history of this earth - from when dinosaurs roamed the land to the early indigenous people and their Petroglyphs. We will try to decipher strange writings left by mysterious visitors and also see how the early settlers lived. We will visit old ghost towns on an old stagecoach road, and imagine that if you wait just a bit, that stagecoach will be coming around the bend in the road.
  • Adventure 4: Early spring the heifers are born. They must be rounded up and branded. It is hard work, but if you are willing to see what this is all about and lend a helping hand, we will have you join us. We will give you a good horse, plenty of tasty grub at the end of the day, and a place to rest. About that place to rest, you won’t be too particular ‘cause when your body is that tired, you will just about sleep anywhere!
  • Adventure 5: In the summer when the snow is melted in the mountains (other than at the high peaks), we may trailer a few good horses into those mountains to explore some of the most beautiful and tallest places on earth. The air is crystal clear, the green meadow grass is as green as you’ll ever see, and the mountains tower above you announcing their grandeur for all to appreciate.

Now join us on the following pages for these adventures.
